Do I need a Keeper Converter (USB-C) ?

Technology is changing and we’re staying on top of it by offering a USB Type-C adapter, the Keeper Converter! Computer and smartphone manufacturers are slowly converting to USB-C and many people don’t know what that means. We want to clear up the confusion and give you confidence that Picture Keeper supports the change.

Do I need a Keeper Converter?

Do you have a new Android device, MacBook, or PC with USB Type-C?

If you do, get the Keeper Converter to transform any USB Picture Keeper drive to USB-C.
If you’re not sure, check What devices have USB-C? below.

Whether you’re backing up or restoring your photos – use the Keeper Converter, and continue to use your USB drives for future photo backups!

Do you have an iPhone or iPad?

If so, you do not need a Keeper Converter. iPhones and iPads do not have a USB-C port.

If you want to back up an iPhone or iPad, all you need is a Picture Keeper Connect – the only Picture Keeper product that can backup your Apple iPhone or iPad, including iCloud photos!

What is USB Type-C?

USB Type-C (or USB-C) is the newest type of USB for charging and connecting smartphones, laptops and tablets.  It can transfer data at a higher rate, and it’s reversible, so it doesn’t matter which way it faces when plugged in.  It is scheduled to become the new universal standard, in much the same way USB has been the universal standard for so many years.

What devices have USB-C?

Apple has made the switch on their MacBooks, you may have heard it referred to as “Thunderbolt 3” instead of USB Type-C.  Windows computers are not far behind.  Most new Android phones and tablets and some Windows tablets are already Type-C as well. Ultimately, within a few years, everything NEW will likely be Type-C.

Below are some popular computers and mobile devices that may need a Keeper Converter to use Picture Keeper products.

I already have an adapter that came with my phone.

Not all adapters work the same.

If you already have an adapter for your smartphone, make sure it’s not the smaller type Micro-USB-to- USB-C adapter. This is not the type of converter you need to connect a Picture Keeper Connect or Picture Keeper Android to your smartphone.  We have tested several of these adapters, and they do not work with Picture Keeper.  Here are examples of some adapters that may have come with your phone.

If your phone came with the larger type, that allows you to connect a USB device directly, it should work.

If you need to purchase a separate USB Type-C adapter, take a look at the Keeper Converter.
